Illustrator CS5 + Yosemite OS X 10.8 + Scriptographer

I was wondering if Illustrator CS5 running on OS X 10.8.+ (Yosemite) supports Scriptographer and if anyone has any success or issues while doing so? If yes then does it require a certain version of Java or anything else, issues, problems, advice, etc..

Please Advise.

Thanks for responding.

Are there any caveats, issues or specific versions of Java needed?

Can you provide some further details on your experience?

Thanks again!

Can anyone definitively share there experience beyond "yes, it works" ??

I just don't wish to upgrade this particular computer if Scriptographer will be an issue and not run (too much time/resources in created scripts to lose it), and don't wish to find out after the fact of upgrading that it will be an issue.

For example there is this:

I'd upgraded to Yosemite, and Apple (rightly) removed the old Java 6 as a security risk. Modern Java installations are much more secure (& capable). You might see some plugins refuse to launch with the new Java version --- Scriptographer for example --- but Illustrator and the other CS5 apps now launch, at least, and they can manage plugin issues themselves.

// ---------------------------------------------------------

Not too encouraging.

I just now noticed I put 10.8, I meant 10.10 Yosemite.

Hi LL,

I am working on Yosemite 10.10 and using Scriptographer on Illustrator CS5, which is only installed to be able to use Scriptographer, as otherwise I am using the whole CC pack for everything else.

I have just experienced an unexpected quit from Illustrator while using a script, apart from that everything worked so far. Scripts load, work fine.

(Well, I do think there is a major issue with memory handling of Illustrator, as I am working on a brand new MBP Retina 15 (with Nvidia and 16gigs RAM), and Illustrator, especially CC is performing a bit annoying, with small delays in completing simple actions. I've been doing a lot of forum research about this, and it seems to be a yet ignored problem by Adobe, a lot of people is affected though.)

cheers

FYI:
Actually, I get crashes more often now, while using the triangular script from this site.

not sure what components of OS/Java causes the crash, the error code is:
0x00080148
trap number 132

i am not sure what this code and number stands for but according to google search, many apps depend on whatever components they are. I think this is probably Java related stuff.

Peter,

Thank you so much for the detailed user experience !

Did you just recently install it?

I'm curious, what version of Java do you have installed and running: 6 / 7 / 8 ? I ask because I am curious if Scriptographer runs with the latest version: 8. Thanks again with sharing your experience, please continue to do so. Also, It's nice to know someone still visits/posts here on this site. ;-)

Hi Peter,

Did you have to do anything special to get Java 8 running with illustrator? I have seen issues and special work arounds that were needed.

If you don't mind me asking did you do a clean install of Yosemite and a clean install of CS5 or just an update of the OS?

Lastly do you happen to use ScriptBay in illustrator, for other scripts also, if so does it run properly. I use it heavily, if you have not used it previously you may wish to check it out.

Thanks again for the first hand accounts of your experience, since it was a recent update, please advise how things progress, if you don't mind.

Thanks again,
LL
