Time Bandit tool allows you to create wire animations.

Note: To use Time Bandit you will need to download and install the latest version of Scriptographer (2.6.037 or above)

Time Bandit features:

– Click and drag to draw
– Change the Bandit width
– Change the Bandit length
– Update Bandit width by drag speed
– Change the number of lines
– Back/Forward (you can change the number of steps)
– "Flashback" button brings you back at the beginning of the previous Bandit.
– Play the animation (press space to stop)
– Show/Hide all layers
– The possibility to lock the first layer (to put markers or reference images)
– Reset the animation (locked layer will not be erased)
– Drawing is much faster in outline mode

To export animations:

– For flash, select a frame on the main timeline or a clip timeline, then import the illustrator file (don't forget to save it before) and choose the option "convert layers to keyframes".
– There is the possibility to export directly in swf from illustrator, then you can import it in after effects to make a composition.

Time Bandit was created by Karian Foehr, Diego Thonney and Jan Abellan during the Scriptographer workshop «Outils Utiles» at ECAL, March 2010.

Hi

I love this script but i am having trouble exporting as swf. I am running CS3 and when I try to exporting as a swf the animation and try reopening it in illustrator it says "the file "Untitled.swf" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened" I am sure I am missing something small in the settings or is there a another way of saving. I just want to save it as you have on your consortium site. thanks in advance.

Just found the inspiration for the script ;)

Hello lb,

When you export as swf from illustrator, the sf file of the animation can be read by flash player, after effects, flash... but not with illustrator. I you want save your animation, just save as an illustrator file. If you export as swf, you can read the animation directly with flash player.

Don't hesitate to ask more questions !

You're right - there was a small bug in the code. The palette components contained: units: 'number', which is an invalid option for component.units. (units can only be one of: 'none', 'point', 'inch', 'millimeter', 'centimeter', 'pica', 'percent', 'degree', 'pixel')

I've attached the fixed script to this comment.

Thanks Jonathan for this add ! I seen many others bug consequent of command+z option.
I thinked about a way to fix it. The problem is that when you do command+z, last drag&drop layers are erased but the new active layer (last of the last drag&drop) is not defined. I will tried to save this one into a variable, detect the command+z input and redefined the new active layer.

But I failed. If you have the time take a look. I missed anything...

cordially greets to you and jurg and sorry for my english
