The reason simple: You need at least Illustrator CS or CS2.

I've never used Illustrator before.

I write software for living, and have been asked by a designer to
get Illustrator to do some non-interactive tasks.
I found Scriptographer, and it looked like the tool to use.

I have just got version 0.5 to run.
The question is, how different is 0.5 and 2.0.

Can I do most things with 0.5 or is 0.5 just a prototype.

Yes, 0.5 is a bit of a prototype. Also, the API has changed in quite a few places, so the versions are not compatible.

Between 10 and CS, Adobe has completely replaced the whole text engine with the one used in InDesign. As the plugin relies on this to be present, it cannot run on 10. I could compile a version without text support, if that is of interest for you? It might take a while though.

The designer needs the scripts to process shapes and colour,
so a recent version without text support will be fine.

She's doing some design work for me,
I am doing some programming for her.

I guess I could try and build a cut down version of 2.0
without the text features. Where would I need to look
to get this going.
