Scriptographer 2.5 for Illustrator CS4, CS3, CS2 and CS

It took far longer than anticipated and far too long for anyone who was waiting for it to be released, especially after after all the false predictions about possible release dates in the past months. But here it is finally, the all new version, with lots of bug fixes, many new features and improvements, and finally proper CS4 support.

Many of the changes are under the hood and not visible straight away, but the more you work (and hopefully write code) with this new version, the more you will notice these improvements on all levels: A better structured and simplified API, syntax simplifications and improvements through tweaks to the Scripting Engine, a series of coding conventions that we will start writing about in tutorials, better structured documentation, etc. With this release we are only lying the base for many more improvements to come, and the more of the hard work is done, the more this becomes the actual fun-part of the project: Designing the architecture itself, coming up with conventions about how to make and use things in easy ways and communicating these, etc.

Several parts of the API have changed, so please do not expect your scripts written for previous versions to just work without some tweaks. We believe that the changes were worth the risk of breaking existing scripts, and we are willing to help with porting to the new version. As a start, we ported most of the scripts that users have uploaded to this site. Each script page still contains the original file, marked with -previous in the name.

We have prepared an extensive changelog with explanations about the API changes and how to adapt and use these.

We believe that this version was well worth the wait. But from now on, we will go back to a scheme of releasing often and early, to keep users in the loop as much as possible.

Great news, but… Download links do not work

For all versions on all platforms. Maybe it was too late :)

It's never too late for working links...

Ok, that was definitely too late last night. The problem is fixed now, all downloads should again work. Have fun!

Great news, Jürg and Jonathan!

I just tried the new version out (win vista64, cs3) and it works very nice. Also i would like to thank you for porting all the available scripts to the new version! Its great to use them again :)

Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with some of the script files. When i open them, they're filled with "null" or spaces or whatever those are... (and yes, i did accept the licence!)
Namely i tried, crowdomatic and fadengraydie and they both have those issues.

And a little bug report:
Illustrator crashes when i close the gardener2.0 panel.

And another little bug report:
I just logged in with my user (Pedro) and the "comment" button wasn't showing up below this post, neither could i add a new thread in the forum or reply to any of the existing threads.

Greets
Pedro

Thanks for the reports. I uploaded your scripts again, so they're working now.

About the crash:
I'm unable to reproduce it on CS4 mac..

Could you send us the crash report that was produced when scriptographer crashed (if any)?

Also please check the logs files in the Scriptographer/log/ folder

Please send them to: service-at-scratchdisk-dot-com

Hey Jonathan

Thanks for fixing the scripts. There are two more remaining from the ones that got the "treatment":
sdstroke_trans.js
wallblazer2.0.js
(i did some traffic ;-)

About the crash:
Unfortunately, the log files are both empty. But i can reproduce it. It happens every time i klick the close button of a scripts menu (the ones with the adobe ui layout )
i tested gardener, crowdomatic and fadengraydie. I also switched to another computer (but same setup) happens there too.

Is there somewhere else i could look for a crash report? Does Illustrator create one?

also, the hover thumb of "Object Raster with Color" is missing in the scripts > rasters section on scriptographer.com
(crazy flickering in ff 3.5)
