what it does:
the script takes the selected objects and blows them up with a detonation.
the detonation starts at the documents zeropoint and can be adjusted by
moving that point or the selected vectors around.

how to use:
select a few objects or several or also quite a lot and press the
play button. a dialog will open with some options to tweak the result.
tweak them and hit "lets boom!!!"

if the objects don't explode, they're most likely still a group.
ungroup them! use free objects, free the objects!! freedom for objects!!
down wif teh grups!!!

the detonation uses four "circles" to create the explosion.
they can be modified in the script options to achieve different looks.
try out different values and different selected objects.
also don't forget to play with the scale of the selected objects
in relation to the document size.

notes:
great things come from explosions.
but also great evil, so choose your objects wisely!

todo:
use pathfinder to make a splitter-mode. heelp needed ->

Works on CS4!
From:  Zed

Hi there, just wanted to report this: it WORKS on Illy CS4, Windows Vista 64bits Ultimate. It doesn't even crash when I close the script window, as it did with CS3. Gotta try the other ones, Gardener crashed as usual but after a plugin reload it works, and doesn't crash Illustrator when closing the script window either.

Sweetness. Great work again, awesome script!!!

A bonus!

As an added bonus I'd like to mention that it also reverses the front/back order of the objects you select, which is great if you need to switch the order of a bunch of objects. Just set the explosion settings to something low, and go boom.

CS5 Problem
From:  Tim
Date:  12. July 2010, 13:53

Hi great script, I've used it on cs3, but when I'm using cs4 & 5 the script doesn't display the values in the popup, there just blank grey. This seams to be a bug but not being a coder it's far beyond me why this happens. Any ideas would be great, want to keep using this script.

Cheers

Nothing happens in CS5

As Tim pointed out before in CS5 (on a Mac) the values in the popup are all completely blanked out – just the popup's background there (although the up and down triangles for setting the values clickwise are there, as well as the "colorize" checkbox).
When I run the script nothing whatsoever happens with my selected object (as simple as a plain rectangle...).
Any suggestions except using CS3 (which I haven't on my current machine...)?

Known Bug

The reported error is a known bug that I am resolving for the next release. Apologies for the encountered issues.

Version 2.8.055 was just uploaded and should fix this issue.

well... as far as dialog is concerned, it seems o.k.

...but even though all settings are perfectly accessible now I cannot explode one simple path. When I run the script all that happens is that my path becomes a group (and maybe gets a red fill, when I check "Colorize").
Can't really imagine what I might be doing wrong here...

Issues

Gromek, is this something that worked correctly for you before the recent upgrades? I would like to make sure this is not simply an issue of using the script wrongly in case you are new to it...

Hi Jürg,
no this hasn't been working correctly before for me, because I just tested with CS4 and CS5 only recently and I hadn't used SG for quite some time since tried it with Illustrator CS years ago (and I never tried this particular script before).

With the current version of SG I've now tested again within CS4 and CS5 (on a new iMac running Mac OS 10.6.4). (ONLY) with CS4 I have – erratically – been able to get any paths "exploded" (that is transformed in some way...). I have not been able, though, to regularly replicate the behaviour with other paths. Sometimes (very seldom actually) it worked but more often it didn't.

With CS5 and the current version of SG I get NO visible results on the artboard: a path I'd wanted to "explode" looks the same after running the scripts but it's a group afterwards and there are 4 new groups above this one in the layers palette. These 4 new groups, however, are "empty" – meaning that there are definitely NO coresponding objects on the artboard which might constitute these groups. Accordingly these "empty" groups cannot be selected in any way (left alone modified).

I cannot think of what I might be doing wrong when running the script as all other "General Scripts" I've dowloaded and tried so far seem to work as intended. So I guess the fault may be with the script itself or its relation to the OS or whatever – but then again there seem to be users who have been able to achieve the desired results with this script...

Looks like I'm at a complete loss here...
