I am looking for people to discuss the needs for and start working on the new scriptographer website that will be launched together with the new version of Scriptographer.
If you want to contribute both ideas or work, please post here.

I wonder what you think of the following idea:

I'm thinking about reusing the system I developed for http://www.hektor.ch/ and http://www.scratchdisk.com/
I know, it could look a bit lazy but at the current moment I just don't want to spend too much time on the website system and get things going as quickly as possible.

It's a selfbuilt modular wiki system that was simplified a lot so the wiki bits are actually not as visible anymore. It's not an open wiki, people need to have an account in order to be able to edit.

It alread has a simple blog module: http://www.hektor.ch/News

An upload / download module could easily be added... The forum could be kept, or switched to a simpler one, e.g. the one Simon proposed (I'm not super happy with phpBB so far).

I totally agree with that. It's already planed. I will do one for that wiki system. Imagine people being able to subscribe to the script page, like that one could allways see the updates automatically...

And yes, of course I want to show examples of other users. For such things the system works nicely, with the thumbnails to the right and all.

I'm considering a user area where people can upload what they want, and then some of these could be featured on another part of the site.

I think thats a great start.
Im working on a layout right now. I like the hektor.ch/scratchdisk.com system. Its very user friendly. seems perfect for what we need.
Im not sure about its ability to take a lot of scripts in one section and still remain clear and useable.
also the sections should be visible all the time. i hate to use the browsers back-button :) but that's maybe just me.

Also a problem might be the Pictures people will send in.. they'll be different sizes and mostly with thin black lines on white background. i don't know how they'll behave visually if the uploadscript or the wiki or "the non-human (little) imagescaling heinzelmann" just resizes them to a predefined size without keeping an eye on interpolation / sharpening.
what do you think? is this a problem?
i suppose those on scratchdisk.com are done by hand, right?

i guess simons input, with showing a lot of stuff, people did with scriptographer is a good idea. i will try to implement something in it.
maybe some random-stuff for the background or a featured script of the day or a featured artpiece of the week or something :)

also, i would love to see more than just one example of the script in use.. like not just a contour of a fish done with the sew.js... more like the tree.js, where 3 examples are provided..

otherwise probably people will not think beyond what they've seen on the site and just recreate. showing them the different use of the script would probably help them in finding a new use of it.

ok, enough for today. more to come..

ok, here it comes. sorry the delay.

Scriptographer 2.0 Layout

Its kinda late, so i keep it short.

The site stretches down till the end of content. the sew.js border im not sure about yet. see tomorrow :)
startup-page i'll wait for your input. i would suggest something like "the latest script" or "the script of the day"
which would feature using one of the samples provided or something like that.

other ideas?

news are on the left. you said something about rss feeds. not sure how they work, so i leave it to you.

I used the hektor.ch template as sugested. the only difference i made was to get one dropdown more than on the original site. it allows fast switching / browsing of the scripts without using the back-button. also its kinda hard to determine from the thumbnail what script this might could be. since there are not like thousands of scripts per section, i would just use that kind of dropdown menue.

the actual script window is kind of simple. you got the description, download-link, amount of downloads and comments (?useful?) on the left, the samples in the middle and the enlarged version of the sample on the right. should the sample-illustrator.ai file be downloadable? is that of any use? what do you think about some kind of video-tutorial (something like simon did with the "scriptographer 3d animated type" in his blog)

if someone just hates to klick on each dropdown or just wants to see the things you can do with scriptographer, i made that samples-page.
thats where they can browse through all scripts/samples and get a little familiar with the mighty morphin' scriptographer. it would be great if we could do some kind of sorting. (sort by type, sort by name, sort by date added.....as in the layout.)

*sleeps*

awww. the green looks shitty on my office mac. but that would be a matter of css anyway... so we could switch it. maybe even randomly?

I'm willing to work on the website, but i don't know how to proceed.
shall i take a look into the hektor-template or shall i work on the layout again to get it
a little more exciting?

either way, it would be helpful to get a little background-information about the hektor.ch website.
i seriousely don't know if i would get that hektor-stuff.. im no programmer.
is simon able and willing to help? or do you have time to work on it jrg?

go go go :)
